Joplin Homeowners
Hi, I am Dustan Shepherd, Neosho native and mortgage lender/affordable housing advocate.
Since moving from Southwest Missouri in 1983 I have worked and dealt with all areas of housing from my home in Overland Park, KS. From homelessness to fair housing, from urban renewal to Indian Country I have gain a broad spectrum of knowledge in all things housing. All though most of you are still in survival mode the thoughts of rebuilding should not be far off. In the near term however, you, your friends and your neighbors will need to take the first steps in developing your housing plan. Right now everyone will need to focus on working with mortgage entities to defer payments and insurance companies to accept damage claims. Federal agencies will also begin making available other funding sources for homeowners.
I like to be of assistance in providing a central location for housing information as well as access to myself and other housing experts to assist you in navigating the maze of issues surrounding your home. On my site you will find information dealing with specific housing issues for Joplin homeowners such as phone numbers and natural disaster websites for lenders/insurance providers and how they will be dealing with Joplin homeowners. If you do not see your lender or insurance company on my list please email me so I can research and add their info. Did you know that if you have a mortgage, in most cases your lender will need to endorse your insurance claim check before you can use it?
I have a full database of construction and remodeling cost that I am happy to share with you to assist in your negotiation with insurance providers and contractors. Currently I specialize in the FHA 203k renovation loan so I spend every day working with homebuyers and homeowners nationwide to finance renovation cost into their loans. You can navigate away from the Joplin information into the 203k information portion of my site to get more ideas and information on how to work with contractors and develop material bids for your home.
The City of Joplin will have a hugh task to under take in trying to quickly license new contractor and while find a reasonable way to permit construction on such a massive scale. It is sad to say but those homeowners who step up first will be the first in line to rebuild but remember you must be patient enough to fully cover yourself when signing contracts with builders. You can contact me through various contact forms throughout my site or just email me directly: dshepherd@bncnationalbank.com.
